While we offer a variety of lesson plans that you can learn more about here, we also encourage teachers to branch out and create your own unique lesson plans.
An effective lesson
- Challenges students to use problem solving skills
- Has clear instructions, but encourages creativity
- Enables students to make their game as polished as possible
- Is fun! Bloxels wants every child to learn as well as have fun!
In order to accomplish all of these, students must first be familiar with the dynamic of the game. We suggest watching the tutorial videos with your student and doing a play through with your students.
Bloxels games often feature enemies, coins, and obstacles to challenge students. Requiring students to add a certain amount of these elements (ex. "You must add 6 enemies to your game".) makes the game more challenging and fun for everyone. Other popular elements of a lesson plan include storylines! Challenging a student to create a story with their game can change the theme of their game; meaning students are encouraged to correlate their game designs with their story.
Students also benefit from reflecting on their own work. Asking a student to write down what is going through their head while they play may encourage them to go back and polish their games. Doing this is also beneficial to increasing problem solving skills. For example, if a student is having consistent trouble jumping from one block to the next, they may need to reflect on why that is happening and what can be done to fix it.
Please join the conversation on our Bloxels EDU Facebook page too! It is great for sharing your own lesson plans and ideas with other educators.
